microset

The Microset system allows the replication of remote and difficult to access locations in applications such as boilers, engines, gearboxes, reaction vessels, pipes, tubes, dies, internal cavities, bolt-holes and a multitude of similar situations.

It provides a useful technique for evaluating change in microstructure and for detecting, assessing and monitoring mechanical wear, cracking, corrosion-pitting, deformation, distortion and contamination.

In practice, it is always, necessary to clean and degrease surfaces prior to replication. For microstructural work areas also have to be polished and etched. A range of special equipment is available for these purposes. Locations within a few feet may be replicated by attaching a small bore extension tube to the end of the mixing nozzle and in such cases the 50 ml system can sometimes be used. Replication at more remote locations is usually accompanied by employing one of our larger pneumatic application systems. Slow curing grades of Microset are used in order to allow sufficient time for the fully mixed compound to be pumped along the tube to the site before its pot-life is exceeded.

In situations where remote locations cannot be viewed directly, the extension tube may be guided to the site using fibre optic inspection equipment. The tube is left in contact with the replica until it is fully cured, after which the tube and the replica are retrieved together.
